You can’t pour from an empty cup
Motherhood is a journey. We must navigate through the peaks and the valleys and although each and every one of us is on a different journey – we all desire the same destination – a safe, healthy & vibrant home base.
We must unite and empower each other to embrace the positive change we envisage in our child’s world and our own.
We must realise that we cannot pour from an empty cup & that self care is not selfish – it is a priority and a non-negotiable.

Upper & lower body weight workout
Life is busy and hectic at the best of times, but looking after yourself is a priority and I think exercise is an awesome way to not only keep you fit and healthy so you can chase after the troublesome kids but also keep your mental health in check. Here is a little workout you can take anywhere as long as you have a bench of some description (bench, chair etc). This is a great little HIIT workout I love doing, as it focuses on upper & lower body strength and also gets the heart rate up! So set your timer and see how fast you can do this workout, and next time you do it – make sure you beat your time!
4 rounds of:
- 12 squat jumps
- 12 lunges (each leg)
- 12 incline push-ups
- 12 dips
Mumma's motivation & mindset
Mumma’s… self-care isn’t selfish, it’s mandatory! If you don’t take care of yourself you can experience burnout, anxiety, stress, difficulty sleeping….the list goes on. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so put on your oxygen mask first, make health and wellness YOUR priority, so you can help the ones you love at homebase.

How to make bone broth
Homemade bone broth is a traditional food that is super healing and nourishing for the human body. Bone broth, whether is be from beef, chicken, fish or any animal is a fantastic source of nutrients and is very rich in gelatin which helps the body with digestion and supports skin, nail, teeth and hair health. It is super cheap to make – most butchers will probably give you the bones for free! Incorporate it in to a stew, curry, soup or even cook rice with it to ensure your child gets some in their diet!
Gut health – everyone is talking about it, but what is it and what is all the fuss about? Well, the hype is warranted. There is a direct link between the health of our gut and our overall health. Our gut houses beneficial gut microbes (fungi, bacteria, viruses etc). Our ecosystem of microbes play a very important role in our immune system, absorption & digestion of nutrients and vitamin production. We are in fact made up of 90% microbes and only 10% human cells. Doesn’t that seem crazy!? Look after your gut bugs and they will look after you! Good health starts at homebase and in the heart of the house – the kitchen.
Food colourings - Steer clear!
Avoid food colourings. The only reason they are used is for cosmetic purposes. In particular, steer clear from these 6 known as the ‘Southampton Six’:
- Sunset yellow (E 110)
- Quinoline yellow (E 104)
- Carmoisine (E 122)
- Allura red (E 129)
- Tartrazine (E 102)
- Ponceau 4R (E 124)
